Wrinkles in practical navigation by Captain S.T.S.Lecky

Squire Thornton Stratford Lecky had an interesting career 1Lecky, Squire Thornton Stratford | Dictionary of Irish Biography (dib.ie) and, among other things, wrote this lovely book. He gives an excellent description of the science and technology of the early twentieth century as well as being instructive in the ways of seamanship. He is very good at explaining phenomena such as tides and the use of instruments including the station pointer which he introduces thus:

So very important an instrument deserves quite a long chapter, but it is easy reading to the end, and quite in keeping with a pipe or Manila cheroot, so light up and settle down to it comfortably.

My 1917, seventeenth edition has over 950 pages and is a delight to read even if much has changed. Available here. as text or pdf.

Squire seems to be a Christian name, not a title.
